Writing The Works Cited Page
Remember a few things while organizing the
works cited page:
- The works cited page must be labelled Works Cited. The label should be at the top center of the page.
- The sources on the page must be listed IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER BY THE AUTHORS LAST NAME.
- The first line of each entry is flush to the margin; all consequent lines within the entry must be indented five spaces.
- Entries in the works cited page should be single-spaced. Double space in between entries.
Books and Reference Books
Bibliographical entries reverse the sequence of author’s names. The last name comes first,
followed
by the second and first names. This is followed by the publication and
publishing details. Thus the
accepted format is as follows:
Walbridge, John. The wisdom
of the mystic East: Suharwardi And
Platonic Orientalism. Albany: State university
of New York Press,2001.
Frye,northrup. Anatomy of Criticism:
four Essays. NewYork; Harper Collins,1957.
If the reference is to the internet
,give as many details as possible because items are sometimes are borrowed from
the internet.
Wordsworth,William. My Heart Leaps
Up,
http://www.quillcorner.com/Poetry/my
heart leaps.html.
If the reference is to an article
belonging to a large collection in a book ,it should be shown as follows:
W.Wiley, “Cognitive Factors
in Reading.”B.quest (ed.).New
Directions in Reading.
(New York:
Harcourt and Brace.1983) p.29.
If the reference is to an article in a
magazine , it should be shown as follows as, giving the name of the author
or authors, the title of the article in double inverted commas, the title of
the magazine /journal the volume number, the place and name of the publisher,
the month and year of publication and the page number or numbers:
H. James “The Word in Context.” The
Journal of Applied Linguistics. Volume 7.
(Islamabad:NUMLPress,2002)
p.34
